Point Poblems

I have a 71 360 that is having problems, I had a pentronix ignitor in it and drained battery and fried both the ignitor and the coil, so while I am waiting for summit to send me a new one I converted back to points and am having problems with keeping the engine running will run for a little while then start missing and then just die, I have set the pints any where from 17 to 24 by incriments of 2 but still no change. I am lost at this point

any help would be thankful

When it dies, check for spark. If you have no spark, check for voltage on the + wire of the coil. If you have voltage on the + of the coil, then I would suspect a bad coil.

Gave that a try and did have power to the coil, when the truck starts acting up it acts like is it is out of timeing, you can push on the gas and get nothing, even can adjust the timing and get no change, but backfiring through the exhaust then dies

Thank for the help

low -

Some points systems are made to crank at 12V, then run on reduced voltage using a resistor circuit. If you have this, I'm thinking maybe your resistor circuit (wire or block) is overheating and slowly killing voltage to the coil.

Your problem is intermittent, so it's not going to be easy to find. If it's not the coil, then I would suspect possibly the capacitor next to the points.
