Starting Problems
My friend has a 78 F-250 camper special 4x4 and we are having problems getting it started. It ran but now will not start after sitting. The problem is it dosnt have spark untill you let off the starter with the key, then it sparks once. We have replaced the ignition switch, starter sylinoid, coil, and brain box and none of them have made a differance, same thing no spark till u let up off the key. I tried having the key on and bypassing the sylinoid with a wire but it still didnt spark. I do not know where to go from here?????? the coil gets power when the key is on. Does anyone have any ideas?? all help would be appreciated because I am just stumped. Thank you.

With the key in the run position you should have something like 7 or 8 volts at the coil's (+) post. If you have that, try jumping the posts on the starter solenoid with the key in the run position to crank the engine. If it fires up that way, you either have a problem with the electronic ignition control module (brain box) and/or a problem in the wiring circuit that provides 12 volts to the coil with the key in crank position.
