engine change

Ok, I have a 1988 ranger with a 2.3L 4cyl. It has a loose wrist pin and I am going to get a replacement motor (with all accessories) out of another '88 ranger from a guy I know well at the local boneyard. He is selling me the complete running engine for $150. I was wondering what all will be entailed in changing the engines over? I know unbolting and bolting and stuff. And making sure that the hoses and wires all hook up right. But if anyone has done this before and can give me any pointers I would appreciate it.

well all that you should have to do is upbolt the one and replace with the other. unless yours is a 4x4 and the donor is coming out of a 4x2 or vise versa. then you will probly have to change your oil pan and pickup. if the donor motor is out of the same type vehicle as yours then it should be pretty straight forward. also you should go ahead and replace a few things while you have the motor(s) out, such as get a new clutch, water pump, and maybe hoses depending on what you want to do. so that way they won't go bad anytime soon, hopefully, and cause you to have to pull the motor again. the best piece of advice i can give is take some masking tape and mark your electrical connection, and others, so you know where things should hook back up when you put the donor motor in. well hope i've helped. good luck
