Engine Noise!!!!!!!!

Hey,

I have a 88 ranger with 2.3L. There is a ticking noise coming from teh top of the motor. It is the worse when it is cold. My guess would be a stuck lifter???????? Any other thoughts?? Also, how hard is it to change lifters/cam on this with the motor in the truck??

It is not a "stuck" lifter as much as it is a "collapsed" lifter. B4 you go to tearing the engine down try some "Rislone" oil treatment according to directions. Also change your oil more often. This can happen if the oil filter is full and the engine oil bypasses the filter allowing crud into the oiling system. The lifters have very very small metering holes in them that are easy to clog up. Of course you realize that all of that crud in the oil filter went thru your oil pump...

What brand of oil do you use?

Thanks for using FTE!
