Exclamation Chip??

I have a 200 F150, 5.4, Flowmasters, K&N Filter, 150,000 miles. I bought the truck when it was almost a year old. I love it!! I've often considered buying a chip/programer for it but never have. I'm pretty much ready to buy now but I'm not sure if it already has one or not. The older chips you actually replaced the chip, right?? I know the knew ones are actually programers that plug into your diagnostic port. I bought the truck in Jan 2002. Here are the things that make me think that it might already have one. Ocassionaly I get a rough idle while sitting at a red light (I have heard people say that this is the result of a chip). I also have a friend who has a 2000 F150 5.4 and mine has always felt considerably stronger than his. Though his is totally stock. How can I find out if the truck already has a chip before I go out and buy one???

If there is a chip on the truck, you will see it on the port on the computer. With a stock computer there is no chip installed on this port. Thus you don't actually "replace" a chip when you install a performance chip. There is also a possibility that a person may have used a tuner and not replaced it back to stock? This is practically impossible to tell without going to the delearship and getting them to read the computer. The rough idle that you talk about isn't from a chip either. I have one and there is no such rough idle that you talk about. There is 150,000 miles on your truck and that is alot. Maybe its something else.

Thanks for the info. What could be causing the rough idle?? It is not consistent and only at idle after the truck warms up. All plugs were replaced at 130,000 miles. Oil is changed every 5,000 - 7,000 miles with Mobil 1 (Full Synthetic).
