New Guy to FTE, Old truck with electrical problems
Hi, thanks for having me on board at FTE. I have a 1970 Ford F250 Camper Special, 360V8, Auto transmission. I was runnuning down the road the other night and it quit. The lights went off first and then she died. I found a burnt wire from starter cylinoid. I reattached wire and she cranked up...but no lights anywhere, no brake lights nothing. I do not want to spend a fortune on this truck.... and I am not an electrical person. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Welcome to FTE, TDW. Please read the forum guidelines to aid you in getting the info you need. Have you checked in at the electrical forums or the forum for your year truck? We have a lot of folks with years of experience willing to help out, but they usually watch specific forums. Check out your local chapter forum, also.

Was the wire that was burnt off connected at point #3 in the following diagram? If so, this is the hot wire that feeds the whole electrical system of the truck. If you follow this wire down the harness a little bit, you may find rubber looking things on some of the wires. These are fusible links, and some of them may have burnt out during the failure. I would inspect all your wiring carefully, since it sounds like something may have shorted to the chassis somewhere.
