I have question about a 94 Explorer. The A/C and heater work fine but the fan will only work intermittenly. What is the first thing I should look at? Is it just that the fan motor needs to be replaced?

I have the same problem. Seems to come on after waiting some time. Today it took 10 minutes.

Just this Monday my wife told me our 94 with 140,000mi started doing the same exact thing. Is there a thermal overload or relay that can stick and unstick???

I was thinking relay also. I don't have a book yet as I just purchased this 94 Explorer with 87K on it. Seems that someone on this forum should be able to help.

I just got a reply on a different message board as it seems no one will answer over here. Jake says to make sure the key goes back to the "run" position after starting. My problem was the fan is on when I first turned the key and the fan goes off after the truck starts. The ignition switch has contacts for each position of your lock on the steering column. So I am going to try to wiggle the key tonight and see if it does the trick.

I need to also test this, but it seems reasonable given that ours is most often giving troubles at start up. Assuming that it is the ignition switch position, does this indicate we are nearing the end of our switches useful lives and are due for a replacement??? Or is there a good means of cleaning and lubing the switch?
