My truck (04 5.4 FX4) engine recently began surging at low speeds. My foot will be steady on the pedal but the engine is reacting like I am tapping the pedal. It does not do it all the time and I know that when I bring it in to the dealer it will not do it! I have about 9k miles and no problems until now. This is an amazing vehice, and I hope it continues to impress me!
Has anyone experenced anything like this?
Thanks in advance for any info.
My truck has done this also...seems to be mainly right after start-up as I'm
driving off. The throttle surges at a particular low throttle position then
goes away as I accelerate. The surging is tolerable right now, but I do worry
about losing control if the throttle surges out of control...especially in a crowded parking lot. I have a list of minor items for the dealer to look at during my next
service...the surging throttle will be on it.
Guys, don't know if this will help. I have a 02' Sport Trac that had the same problem. I have solved this problem by switching to Super Unleaded and adding Injector Cleaner once a month. Sounds Crazy but it worked.
Mine too, About 20 times in 12K, seems to do it more on warm start up not cold & not hot, thinking of possilbe coolant temp sensor reading improperly. Different gas won't help this problem.
Sweat, I had the same problem with my (military) 03 Sport trac. started at about 4K miles so when I took it to the shop for maintenance (PM), the tech said that they had a few (which is fleet purchased through Military contract) that came in with the same problem prior to me so they contacted Ford and a tech was sent here to Hawaii to investigate. He said the tech brought in a laptop hooked it to a terminal under the dash and did a Idle and drive diagnostic on 2 of the 30 or so sport trac's we have on island and said they have been experiencing a problem with the "Injector Module" which is located in the engine compartment! the computer sends the info to the module on how much fuel to dump via acceleration and in between this process that module is receiving and sending fuel pulses intermittingly and then returns to normal. so all sport tracs that was in for maintenance had these modules replaced. I am now at 10.5K and no problems.
