Question A/C problem

F-150 03' XLT I have a A/C problem. The vents in the dash dont kick on for at least 5 minutes after the engine has been running. The A/C blows through the vents under the dash towards my feet as soon as I turn the A/C on though. This just recently started happening and I have never seen this before. If anyone could possibly explain to me whats happening I might be able to fix it.

The internal vents are controlled by vacuum. Sounds like you may have a cracked or pin-holed line that goes to the flaps that change the airflow direction. You will have to crawl under the dash and start changing the the heater controls til you find which line controls the airflow. Then you may be able find the leak. Its not like under the hood where you can usually hear a bad vacuum leak. you will have to look close for this one.

Something like that would probably be best taken to a dealer. I agree it is probably a bad vacuum hose, but fixing that is always a pain, and the truck is still under warranty!

No Its still under warranty..... BUT... about a month ago I let one of my buddies install four speakers and an amp and he about burnt my truck down..... long story short he spliced the remote wire for the amp into the ignition start fuse and it was receiving to much power and the wire started burning through the insulation......Now Im almost positive that thats why Im having the A/C problem..... I looked behind the dash where the remote wire was run and didnt see any other burnt wires or damage but Im not sure if that the warranty still applies if you have messed with the electrical system and they find out.... I know that probably doesnt make a lot of sense but.... thats my situation..

Yea it does...but the worst that can happen is they tell you..not covered under warranty. Look around the the steering column, and you will find what looks like a large wiring harnees with LARGE wires. They will be all sots of bright colors, but feel kind of mushy compared to regular wiring. These is a distb. block for the vacuum for the heater/AC controls. Start checking there for leaks.

Good luck!

Couldnt hurt to try to get the dealer to do it for you...just make it look a as good as you can before taking it in.
