Lean Mixture Trouble Codes Fixed !!
Problem Solved ! 1998 F150 4x4
Been having Lean Mixutre trouble codes triggered every time I left altitude and pulled the first hill on my way home in the mountains.
Left a message on this site - and Racerguy directed me to a tech bulletin regarding Baro sensor, and MAF sensor contamination.
After running tests with my auto xray scanner I determined that the MAF sensor was funtioning poorly. I removed the MAF sensor, carefully cleaned the two wires with chemtool carb cleaner and a Q-tip ( the wires bend very easily so be careful ). The wires had some black tar like substance on them . After re-installing the MAF sensor I disconnected the battery for about ten minutes to erase the KAM ( keep alive memory learned ) .
Re- testing the MAF sensor warmed up and at idle - it was now well within the operating range it should be ! I have since driven the truck off the hill and happy to report - NO TROUBLE CODES - NO LEAN MIXTURE BANKS 1 & 2 !!!
