Front Diff Grinding Noises???
I have a 98 4x4 Ranger. And yes, the crappy PVH 4x4 system. I was gonna test it out today to see if it might just work. Well it didn't. I would put it in 4Hi and I would hear the noises the transfer case makes. But, my two back tires were just spinning in the grass. I tried 4Lo, same thing. One thing that I did notice was it was making a strange noise from the front diff. The lights on my dash always works and shows what drive I am in. My transfer case always makes the sounds of engagement. But, the grinding noise was different and new to me. The noise would not go away until I put it back in 2wd. It sounded like gears grinding and it would become louder and faster and as my speed would increase. I know these trucks are known for crappy front hubs but I would like some input on the grinding noise. Sometimes my 4wd works but when it doesn't...it grinds!!! I have also heard to take apart the hubs and remove of a certain metallic piece that would cause constant engagement of the hubs, just like the new Rangers. HELP PLEASE!
