Input on Lightning MAF conversion kit

Has anyone used the Lightning Mass Air conversion kit for a Bronco with a 5.8 E4OD combo????

If so what did you think about the quality of the kit and its performance????

Also, what if any other engine mods do you have????

Thanks.

I Bought Mass Air Kit But Haven't Installed Yet. Lghtning Came With Gt40 Intake And Heads. The Throttle Body Is In A Different Location, You Would Have To Adapt The Intake Tubes To Match.

I Have Gt40 Intake Setup To Install Wth My Mass Air Kit, Still Looking For A Set Of Heads And Will Be Changing Cam. I Have'nt Decided On Heads Because The Stock Flat Top Piston In The 351 Limits Valve Size. So I 'm Thinking Of Rebuilding My Engine Before Changing To Mass Air.

I'm actually doing a 408 stroker buildup with Pro Topline 200cc iron heads with 2.05/1.60 valves. Waiting for the heads to arrive and I just dropped off the block for machine work. I've been told its a bit of a pain to switch everything to run a car style intake so I'm going to get the Edelbrock truck piece initially. I've had some people tell me the computer that comes with the Lightning kit still needs tuning. Then I've had others say I should be fine except maybe with regards to the shift points.

Did you get the Lightning kit???? Or somebody elses????

How much did you have to pay for it and where did you get it from, if you don't mind me asking????

Anyway you could take some pics of it?

Thanks

I bought the Lightning kit, from a National Lightning Owners Club member. He bought the kit and never installed it so I got the complete kit new in box for $650.00. I've seen several on Ebay anywhere from 575.00 used to 900.00 new. Check the lightning owners club classified and Corral.net (mustang ) for deals on parts.

The truck intakes are twin valve throttle body and you would want to look for air intake tubes from a 96 or newer truck with factory mass air meter ( if they made a 460 with mass air that might be bigger than 351 don't know). The mass air meter mounts at the air box. Do a little homework with 408 you want as big a throttle body as you can get. The ford GT40 intake setup uses single throttle blade like all mustangs . The aftermarket has all kinds of products available for single throttle valve intake. You might be restricting the intake a little with the twin valve setup but most trucks don't run a lot of high rpms so that might not make a difference.
My parts are out in the garage attic I will post some pics tomorrow of the mass air kit and gt40 intake setup.

Sweet.......right on.......good stuff. Can't wait to see some pics.

Hey with regards to the switch to the car intake setup. Um, I was basically told it would be a pain due to the EGR not being hooked up the same (pass. side on stock truck, drivers side on Lightning/car) and then the cables all being shorter and different and of course bracket differences. Have you gotten into researching that at all. Makes me wish I had a 5.0 Stang or something to look at as I'd attempt the switch. If not for time, I'd say I'm really at a good point to make the switch myself right now as I don't have any parts yet other than heads coming. My fealing was that in my case and I may still stick with this, is that it may be easier for me to do the switch later once the truck is already running. Not sure though, sure would be nice to just get it out of the way up front and also eliminate any concerns of a restrictive intake.

Thanks can't wait to see some pics....cool!

tuff, so when you put the gt40 on you will have it pointing to the drivers side right?

Yes, just like the Lightnings and the opposite of Mustangs. The top can point either way. For trucks it needs to point to the drivers side.

I wonder what kind of HP the GT40 intake can support?

I got lucky last night after hours of searching and found a free Desktop Dyno 2000 download by searching in the Stangnet forums, that even included quite a few head and cam parameters for the program. What a score!

The Desktop Dyno has me concerned about my trans as its telling me I should be up at the 500HP level with the heads I am getting and cam I am considering. Wow! And just to confirm its accuracy I plugged in the parameters for a 340 Duster engine I had over 12 years ago and this program pegged it right on the money.

that is flywheel power not to the rear wheels. so figure about 400 to the wheels with your combo. the gt40 puts out great numbers especially torque due to its long runners. those dtdynos a great
