low range

I have a 92 Ford F-150 with touch shift 4 wheel drive, awhile back I noticed the low range would not work I thougt nothing of it. Now when I take off in 2 wheel drive (high range) it acts like it is trying to shift into low range with grinding and slipping. Anybody have any ideas?

I had a '92 F-150 a few years back that had this problem. I think that they replaced the actuator/regulator (whatever they called it) to engage it into 4x4. My high range would go in sometimes and other times it wouldn't and 4 low didn't work when I bought the pickup, so I made them fix it.

drop your transfer case and take it apart, there is a plate in there that guides a pin that engages or dis engages 4 low, 4 high and 2 high, you gotta move the parts around and eventually you'll figure out what makes it work, its real simple inside once you get it apart, the plate i was talking about earlier has probably slipped off the pin, so it doesnt know where the hell to go. after this is fixed, ditch that damn button and put on some manual locking hubs, you'll never regret it!!!! i have an 88 f150 but i bet ya our transfer cases are the same, my plate slipped off and i fabricated a plastic washer and wedged er in there, now shes tighter than a prom dress after a six pack, whatever you do, dont use metal washers in there, cuz it willl rub on the metal of that t case and where a hole right through the side.

good luck
