CD Player Question

This may seem kind of random, but when I bought my bronco it came with an Alpine CD player in it (Serial CDA-7837), anyway, my question is why will it not play burned CD's? It plays normal CD's and the radio works fine, but the disk just spins and nothing plays when burned discs are inserted. Thought somebody in this forum might know. Thanks alot!

If it was manufacture before Burned CDs then it may not play them. I had a CD player that did the same thing. Also make sure the CDs were formated to be read by other CD players.

Car CD players seams to have problems with cd-r's unles they were designed to read them. Try different brands and "colors" of cd-r's. I've seen players that liked crappy no-name-brand green cd-r's. But hated expensive blue cd-r's. Once you find a brand that works, buy a lot of them.

You may also want to look into the CD+R's since not all older reader writers use CD-R but I bet that it was just improperly formatted / dubbed.

Good luck,

Wink

I also have an Alpine. Mine's a 6 disc changer that I keep mounted in the center console. One thing I discovered from the constant bumping around is that the laser that reads the disc can come out of adjustment. It's complicated to explain but I just pulled the cover off mine, got the silicon gel cushioners off and very carefully looked around til I found the circuit harness that runs from the lens, on that you'll see a very, and I mean VERY small circular thingamajiggy with an even smaller slot for a straight screwdriver. You can turn that just a little bit. Like if you can feel it move, you moved it to much. I don't remember which way to turn to make the lens "hotter" but I want to say counterclockwise. Anyway, CD-R's have always worked in my changer and I've had it since 96. Green, blue, black(dark dark blue) have all worked. Just a side note about Alpine, in my opinion it is the best CD player/changer out there. The vibration dampening is great. I can drive washboard at the speed(slow) that is the bumpiest and rarely does it skip. I learned the lens trick from my Playstaion 1. When you want to play burned(pirated) games with a mod chip, you sometimes have to change the lens setting.

Here is a link to the owners manual for your system. I have an Alpine as well and in the specs, it specifically states it will play burned CDs. Yours doesnt list this so there is a good chance it was not designed to read them.
