You might have better luck in the suspension forum.

I have been told that 73-79 springs are identical to each other and different from all earlier and all later springs.
I have been told that 73-76 are identical to each other and different than 77-79.
I have queried and sought out info from all sources I could find in my search to build the biggest and strongest lift possible and one of the few answers a large percentage of my sources have had is that I will not have much use for pre-73 springs. I know this is not much help to you, however, if you have a junkyard(s) close by, they seem to be pretty knowledgeable when it comes to parts interchange. At the very least, you can go there and search for the two different years and compare them. I learned that it's tough for people to answer a question like this because the average person doesn't have a 78 and a 72 to compare, and too many guys want to give you information that, at best, might be right.
As far as the 8 inch lift--you'll be doing good to find a 4 incher in the box! Get ready to fabricate your own. Good luck!
