I love my F-150 BUT.....
First time poster here!
We bought our new 2004 F-150 just a few months ago, only 3000 miles on her so far.
I am VERY concerned with gas mileage though. When we purchased the Dealer told us we should be getting around 17 mpg in the city and 24 or better on the highway.
We are way short of that! Currently we are getting anywhere from 11.5-12.5 MPG in the city.
Just wanted to see what other owners were finding. I asked the service person when we had our oil change a couple of weeks ago and he said to track it for 5 full tanks.
Please let me know what kind of mileage you are all getting.
Note - 4.7L, not the 5.4L
Thanks all!

16-17 is what I normally got with 75% highway, 25% city in both my '97 reg. cab and '01 Screw with the 4.6L.

The engine is still new and tight. The extra friction between moving components will affect power and fuel economy. It's difficult to accurately assess the fuel economy potential of your truck until it has at least 10,000 miles on the odometer. With that said, it sounds as if your dealer has been sticking Ford Ranger fuel economy stickers on his F-150's. 17 MPG in the city is an elusive goal for a 5,000+ lb. vehicle that is geared to haul heavy loads. INHO, that number is closer to the highway mileage potential.

Yeah, we have a dealership just like that here. I have done allot of research on the 04's especially the F150. Try this sometime... go to a dealership and inquire about the F150 but play dumb, watch the BS they'll tell you to make a sale. I walked in to C-Ford with my wife and asked about the FX4, this guy must've thought I was the biggest Idiot until I let him have it. then he tells me that he's only been employed there for a couple of months and he was still learning about it. WTF! After being schooled, his attention turned to my wife to which she enlightened him even further. so yes, they will say anything given the chance.
