Cool Dud!?

Hi guys! This truck my dad bought 2 or 3 years ago is a real dud. It has a 390 2bbl and a c6 auto (yuk!!) Tons of engine blowby and the trans is messed up pretty bad. In gear you have to floor it to get it to move and it sticks in first too long before hittin second. i tuned it up and now it wont start, battery has plenty of juice and all wires are on right. Any ideas!?!?!?

check the silenoid, and make sure the wires are tight on the battery. Does it make any sounds when you try to crank it¿?

For shifting issues, make sure the little vacuum hose is connected to the tranny modulator and to intake vacuum port. I had mine fall off years back and it would NOT shift right(since it could not read motor vacuum). Just a thought.

Not start?? Turn over?? turn over, but not fire?? Just clicking?? Need a bit more info to help diagnois this problem.

New points/condensor?? Are they adjusted properly?? Did you reset timing after points install. It is a must. Adjusting the points does alter timing, so you need to recheck after points are set.

Like freightrain said, you need to replace the points and condensor for a tune-up too. Double check your plug wires/firing order, and if you already have, check it again (its easy to overlook a mistake many times in a row). Do you have anything to check for spark with?

on the bottom of the tranny, facing the rear of the truck, behind the pan, beside the tail shaft, on the passengers side. Kinda looks like the vacuum deal on the side of the dizzy.
If yours is adjustable (slot for flat blade screwdriver) playing with it will lengthen or shorten the shifts some. Mine was holding gear way too long, I turned it 1/2 turn (in i think, tighten, you may have to experiment) and it shortened the shifts up nicely.

For the just clics part... have you tried gently tapping the starter with a hammer, and then try restarting it? Sometimes a little tap will presuade it to work again... for a while...

If there is any tranny fluid inside that vacuum modulater, the diaphragm is ruptured and it will need to be replaced.
