Post PSD Question?

My dad just bought a 2002 F350 SD, done out every option, and of course the PSD. He pulls a 27' travel trailer a couple times a year. I was wondering if there are any horsepower upgrades anyone recomends or just keep it stock? I took it for a spin, my first time behind the wheel of the PSD, and I fell in love. I drive a 1996 F150 4x4 I6. I do mostly city driving, and down the road I'll pull a horse trailer. I want a PSD F350, would it be wise to make that jump since it will mostly be a daily driver?

In my opinion these engines have plenty of power right out of the box. My truck is also my daily driver. I've had 2 PSD company trucks and now my personal truck. I will never buy a gas engine truck again.

You can get significantly more power by getting a chip or "tuner." I use the Superchips MicroTuner, and it's a night and day difference, it's simple (takes 3-4 minutes) and requires no modification to the truck.

Make sure you get a good set of gauges if you go this route, because you need to monitor your exhaust temperatures, especially since you tow. It would suck to fry your turbo on a new truck! A larger, less restrictive exhaust system will help keep temps down.

I drive mine in the stock tuning quite often, cuz if I program it for the higher power I can't keep my foot off the pedal... bad mileage, speeding tickets, etc.

But powerstroker is right, these things have lots of power stock. See how it pulls first, you might like it as it is.
Look through the posts here and see what people have to say about the various chips, exhaust systems, etc., the people on this board have lots of good info for ya.
