Still Pricing 428 Blocks

I swear there a pain in the butt to find one thats decent..

I called Dennis today at DSC..and he has a couple starting @ $450
But there bored .060 over.. He did say they were sonic tested..

But .060 over in a 428 arent the walls getting real thin?

I dont know? Maybe I should have kept my spare 390... But I always wanted to build a Cobra Motor!! I just a keep on a lookin!! Any Ideas?

If Dennis says that they are good then I would believe him but you have to think about the future of the block. It pretty much doesn't have one beyond the first and maybe second rebuild. The best thing to do would be to get one of his 390 blocks that are sonic tested to bore to 428 size and tell him you need it to be able to go .030 over for the future.

I can get you a good deal on a .020 428 with 1 sleeve, and some matching pistons :-) That would just encourage me to go 427 or to an Aluminum block!

Oh, but you'll need 6.7" BBC rods.

He would need longer rods than that with a 428 crank. That would be getting up there in the length. If only rods at about 7" were available at a decent price.

FWIW, I found a std bore 428 after about 4 years of searching 70 miles from home. It was a bare block with crank, rods, and ***. heads( needed rebuilding) for $500. I was very happy to find that!!!

Just to comment I was also looking at DSC, and the 428 and 427 blocks made me drool, would this be a good way for a poor man to fufill his big block fantasy or should I stick with the 390 build.
Oh yeah if it cost ten cents to crap i would need a loan.

Just get the crank and make a 410, I bet you couldn't tell the difference.

Doen't even mess with a (half) filled block for the street, you'll be fighting cooling problems all the way.

It is due to the same cam, heads, intake being used on two diff size engines. I would be willing to bet that the torque on the 416 was higher at all RPM and that is what you feel. The 416 would benefit from more cam and still idle just as nice as the 390 and make more power.

RapidRuss... DON'T trust DTD. Your common sense tells you that a 410 makes more power than a 390. Otherwise, what was the point of Ford making a 410 in the first place?
