Ok I found a unique engine today in a 90 Lincoln in a local Salvage Yard. I have no idea what it is but I hope one of you do because the salvage yard guy just blew me off. Said I was crazy. The engine is EFI and it is not a 5.8 or a 5.0. I think it is an alluminum 460 but I have never seen such an animal. It was the biggest GD engine I have ever seen in a car. I mean the valley between the heads was at least 20" wide and it was all alluminum. I looked all over the thing for ID but no go. Have any of you got an idea what the heck I was looking at. Ed
Are you sure the car is a 90? The engine your are discribing sound like the 4.6 d.o.h.c that Lincoln started to use in 93. Are the sparkplugs in the center of the valve covers? I am installing one in a 56F-100.
As a matter of fact the spark plugs are in the center. I looked at so many cars that I may have missed up the years. I am going back today to pull a rearend out of a 64 F-100 so I will look again. Damn that is one wide **** engine. My 5.4 in my wifes new truck does not look no where near that big. Was that the original version of the DOHC 4.6? How is the install going BTW. I still have not decided which way to go on my 54 but I am trying to find a low mileage 351 locally. Ebay is the wrong place to buy motors. Too damn high. Ed
Ed: When I started me 56 project I was going to use a 354 Hemi that I owned, When I found out how much they cost to rebuild I sold the 2 that I had and bought the 4.6 and had cash left to spend on other parts for the 56. I deciced on the 4.6 because, first I wanted to fill the huge engine bay, I wanted to go all Ford, and it was fuel injected and had a electroic trans. that is very strong. I am hopeing to get about 325 hp out of the 4.6. They were 280 stock and that is with 2 cat. converters. If you want more power you can install a Mustang Cobre intake. Ozzie
Ozzie. Don't do that to me. I just saw your gallery and you are using the Aerostar front end. But you did not have a pic of the 4.6. Man I am seeing those DOHC motors everywhere now that I know what I am looking for. Why did you have to notch your crossmember. BTW I found one for $250 and it only had 20k Miles on it. It looked brand new and only took me about an hour to get it out of the van. The van even looked brand new and was there because the motor was shot. If I had a few grand that van would have been cheaper to rebuild them my truck Ed
Ed I didn't notch the crossmember, the notch is in the pickup frame. I did this to lower the ride height. The 2 inch notch I used should give about a 6 inch drop from the stock height. One of the reasons I used the Aerostar was the low purchase price. I will e-mail you a pic. of the 4.6 in my frame. This big boy really fills up the frame rails. Ozzie
