power window

the drivers' side power window is malfunctioning. It will go down but when I attempt to raise it, I hear the motor turning but the window does not come up. I drove with the window down for about 15 minutes and then attempted to raise the window. Surprise! it went right up. I know windows have been covered on this forum before, but this seems unique.

thanks.

window woes

It would appear that you have a worn / chewed up nylon gear set in your window. Rebuild kits are readily available, probably through some of the vendors that help pay the freight for this site. If the motor runs you can usually get the window up (in a pinch until you can do the repair) by pressing the switch & lifting up on the glass.

What he said. Also I wouldn't replace the gears because it's about $25-$30 and the new motor is about $50-$60 with a lifetime warranty. After you replace the gears how much longer do you think the motor is gonna last on an old Bronco? And when the motor goes you have to replace it all together anyway.

I just replaced the bushings in my passenger window this weekend. Very easy job. You may have to drill a couple holes to remove 2 of the bolts. I got the bushing kit off e-bay for $5 and even came with instructions. Kicking myself for not doing the fix sooner, I always thought the motor was bad until I found this forum!
