Talking Buying A 1997 F150 4.2

HI EVERYONE.
IM NEW TO THE BOARD

I FIGURED THIS IS THE BEST PLACE TO GET SOME GOOD INFORMATION. IM LOOKING AT A 1997 F 150 WITH THE 4.2 FIVE SPEED. IT IS THE STX PACKAGE WITH A FIBERGLASS COVER AND A SPRAY IN BED LINER. IT HAS BRAND NEW TIRES ON 17 INCH RIMS. THE COLOR IS BLACK AND IT HAS A FEW SCRATCHES ON THE SIDES. IT HAS 78K ON IT.

I WAS TOLD I COULD GET IT FOR $6K

ITS THIS A GOOD PRICE OR SHOULD I KEEP LOOKING. ANY FEEDBACK WOULD BE GREAT

THANKS
PAT

Hey Pat, great to have you here at FTE. Glad you found us.
While I love my truck, I'd keep shopping if I were you. The 97 models are more likely to have engines problems due to gasket design.
I'd look for a late run '98 or a 99. They can be found at fairly reasonable prices.
But that just my 2 cents.
We'll see what others say.
Again, nice to have you here.

I'd say that's a good price for the truck. If I were you I would just change out the lower intake gaskets right when you buy it. The 97 4.2's have a HORRIBLE reputation for the leaky gaskets. They fixed this problem in the latter years, but I'd just be safe and do it now. Good luck!
