Engine Code question
Still trying to chase down my high idle problem on my '89 F-150
4x4, 300 6 cyl. Attempted to pull engine codes and got one flash long pause then 5 short pulses (using the check engine light). This sequence was repeated 3 or 4 times. I read this as being possibly 15 which Chilton's says is a PCM memory test failure. Is this correct? Do I need a new PCM? Also, my ECT sensor has been removed and replaced with what I believe to be a thermocouple type of temp gauge. Would this cause a problem reading codes? Can I replace with an ECT and splice into the wire harness so that I can read temp on the dash as well as show acutal temps on my external gauge?

The ECT has nothing to do with your temp gauge. You have a temp sensor and a temp sending unit. The sensor is what the ECM uses, and the sender is for the gauge. The sensor is in the t-stat housing, and the sender is under the exhaust manifold, towards the rear of the engine.
If someone replaced the sensor (on the t-stat housing) with a sending unit for a guage, then yes, that's your problem.
