There's a reason the split header design isn't made anymore- they have terrible exhaust leaks at the collector. I'd rather pull the header to replace the starter than listen to those worthless 3 piece headers leak on a long drive. I'm running heddman elite headers. With a 3/8's flange they seal great and very high quality. Little spendy though.

My blackjacks (which are probably not made anymore) didn't join at the collector, there was a slip joint about 1 foot away from the collector... it did leak, but I brazed it together, still holding...

I'm not condoning the design, I'm just saying I've found headers that did allow the starter to be removed...

Headman Headers work excellent and can be picked up for less than flow techs through JEG's

FlowTech is in Phoenix... wierd...

The Hedmans I had on my '66 F-100 w/ 390 were really bad about killing my starter, FWIW.

no matter what header you have it will kill your starter if its not protected. think about its exposing the interior of your engine bay to much more heat. how much were the hedmans thourgh jegs?

my header money has been diverted to C6 rebuild money. (as have my carb and rad. funds... )
i've looked no further at headers, actually had to pass up on a deal of $100 for ceramic coated Headmans... DOH!

I'm just replacing a manifold gasket again while I try to save up.

hey i wonder i looked at the hedmans on jegs and i dont think they will fit because they say there only for 4wd and 3/4 ton neither of which i have, can i still use them if there made for 4wd and 3/4 ton? i think ill go with hedman if i can make it work even though there $130 because they seem to be the highest quialty just looking at them they look better than flowtech.

just finished installing the NAPA nitroseal gasket.
I can tell you Hooker makes a far superior gasket. Nitroseal never lasted one startup let alone a backfire! Hookers will endure 6-8 weeks with at least one backfire a week. So, 4 extra bux for a gasket that does not seal (on 'my' truck). Bummer.
Anyone having gasket issues, I suggest trying Hookers.

Makes me wonder if I shouldn't spend the extra monet on Hooker headers as well... Hookers on my Mustang have been maintiance free... Hmmmm...

Heh, sorry to hear that. : )
I didn't mean to rub it in, I swear! Let me know if you're ever going to be in the Tucson area - I live on the NW side.
