'89 aerostar, code 96

Got a code 96/fuel pump circuit open, battery to PCM. I can't seem to figure this one out. When I turn the switch, the fuel pump doesn't charge. Fuel pump is just over a year old, fuel pump relay is only months old and when I ground the self test connector- it clicks. Ignition switch, ignition module , and coil are all new. Anybody with any ideas? I'm at my wits end with this one and willing to try anything.

I would check the fusible link feeding the fuel pump circuit.

Thanks Dave,
I've got the Haynes manual and found the wiring diagram but I'm still not sure what i'm looking for. Would this be a wire between the starter motor and FPR (red to yellow)?

They show it on this diagram as fusible link "E". And if the vans are like the trucks, it will lead to the starter relay or battery area where it can pick-up the 12 volts.

Dave,
Thanks for the link. It may take me awhile to study that one. Any idea where the link is physically?
Thanks again,
Chuck

Thanks for the link. I have the haynes manual but it still doesn't tell me where to find it (i.e., underneath, engine compartment, left, right, etc.) Any clues?

Accoding to my electrical locator, fusible link "E" is located with several other fusible links near or at the starting relay. This is on the left front fender panel. According to the pic. and description, it should be blue in color. I hope this helps. It really doesnt give more info than that.

Thanks for the info. Now to determine which one it is. Visibly they look fine. Any way to test them without cutting?

Better to be lost in Kentucky than found in other places.

Usually, I just give them a little tug in the center of the the link. Dont pull too hard!....lol. If it feels rubbery or streches, then it probably is defective. You could always use a test light also. Just check at both ends of the link and see if you have juice there. I hope that this helps!
