Duel tank problems
I've gone through every message on here. Maybe Im missin the black and white here. I have an 89 f150 302. Gauges work pretty well, rear tank works great but when switching to front tank, it dies after a while of running. It also is sucking the gas from the rear while switch is on front tank. I have a full tank as the gauge says and I hear the pump working. I was told that if the truck started by banging on the tank it was the pump, if it didnt, it was the switch. Im completely lost. The switch moves on the dash, but yet the front tank is getting no use and Im using gas from the rear and it still dies. Have I totally confused you? 
Please Help!! I cannot imagine spending $300 on this job. Bobbi

I believe there are 3 pumps on your truck. There is one in each tank and one on the frame rail. It sounds like your front in-tank pump is dead. The switch in the dash controls which tank pump operates, and pressure from the tank pumps operates the physical selector valve. If there is no pressure to switch the valve, the high pressure pump will try to pull fuel from the tank it was operating off of before the switch, in your case, the rear tank. Verify that the front tank pump is not working before diving in and replacing it. You can unplug the frame pump (at the pump) and then cycle the key on and off to listen for the in-tank pumps.

i have a similar problem on my 96, except when i switch from the rear to the front tank, there is a noticable power increase. i dont know what to think of it. would it be the same thing, a fuel pump going out or any suggestions?
