Question Winch Selection

Hey,
I am in the market for a new winch for my 95 f-150. I was looking at a 9000lb mile marker hydrolic winch to fit the bill. I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions or stories about the winch model and if I should go with this one or maybe go with a warn electric or something different. Thanks for the input

i would suggest an electric.....just in case your motor dies then the electric winch will keep pulling until the battery is dead. on a hydraulic when the motor dies so does your winch! Although...hydrualics are strong and cheaper. I would like to try one myself but if i do i will get a 12,000lb at least! I like'em cause you can use them underwater.

warn's 8274-50 is a very nice winch and respectable!

one of the magazines did a comparason test a few years ago between the mile marker and an electric and they burned up 3 pumps that day. since then it seems like the mile markers winches has lost some of there apeal, i never seen one so i don't know how good they work but i am happy with my warn winch

yea, thats the thing, they say that they won't burn up the power steering pumps but i've heard stories from both sides. Now they apparently have a pressure sensitive valve so that it wont over work the power steering.

i have the 9000lb electric mile marker winch on my truck, and i can't say a bad thing about it. it pulls my truck out everytime. and i get stuck alot. i would go with an electric, easy to install and trouble free. i have had my winch mostly in the mud/water junk and it still works and pulls me out. they are at such a great price now you can't go wrong.

I too have recently decided to get another winch. I have an old Jeep with a 2500lb Warn and using a ****** block, I get out every time.
Now, since I have a Full Size F150 SuperCrew, I think I will go with the M8000. Using a ****** block, it will move 16,000 lbs. Why will you need more unless you do serious climbing where you need to pull uphill. You can get the M8000 for $459 versus the 9500 for about $1000.

Several of my friends have 9500's, 12,000's and one has the 16.5. We recently pulled out a tractor that was buried to the frame. The 9500 with a block pulled it right out. That tractor weighed about 10,000 lbs. Enough said!
