Knock sensor

I guess it's possible. Do you have a knock sensor you could plug into the harness and tie it up? It should never sense a knock, but the computer would not do anything crazy due to not having the signal from it.

It's running better now. Forgot that the computer needed to relearn everything after battery being disconnected. Block does not have a hole for knock sensor but read somewhere that I could screw it into the head accessory bolt hole at the back of the engine. Don't guess it hurts to be diconnected because some people disconnect them for passes down the track.

You wouldn't necessarily have to attach it to the engine, but plug it in and tie it out of the way. This is so the computer doesn't throw a code for not having an input from the KS, even though it won't detect any knocking.

Well I had to buy a new one 'cause the old one is still in the old block at the scrapyard so I might as well screw it in if there's a hole near the plug but at least like you said connect it to avoid codes. No check engine light so far.

Update: Been 7 years since I swapped in this engine. Missing power turned out to be a defective fan clutch. That fan REALLY sucked the power down and ate up a lot of gas. After I replaced the fan clutch again after the engine swap the little 5.0 from the Explorer pulls my van nice and smooth.
Another interesting disaster, the rear antilock brake sensor fell out while on the highway, ring gear thru all the diff oil out the hole and the diff went BANG, chunk, chunk, chunk, rattle, rattle at 65mph.
A fairly new (6 month old) Bosch electronic ignition module, the one that screws to the side of the distributor, failed one rainy night. I still had the original 1991 part so it went on after the tow home and is still sparking!
Getting close to 190K miles on the Van but the engine has only 70K on it. Still has the original electric fuel pumps in the tanks as far as I know and the AOD is working great. Replaced the radiator, motor mounts, exhaust manifolds and all the sensors at the same time as the engine swap. Plan on driving it till I find a 51 Panel truck that needs an engine ha ha.
