Question Block heater

I recently bought a 2000 Expedition. It comes from California and i am in South Dakota. Have a block heater that goes in the Freeze Plug hole. Need help with hole location. I think i found it but not sure and if i did how do i remove it. It is above the oil pan on the drivers side near rear of engine. It is counter sunk in block and silver colored. There are no slots for a screw driver or anything. is this the right spot or can someone help me. Really would appreciate the help. It gets below 0 here

You should be able to install a freeze plug type block heater in any freeze plug that it'll reach. But be aware that you cannot just remove the freeze plug. You have to drain the coolant first.

You'll also want to make sure that you can install the block heater so that it seats properly and won't leak. So choose the hole properly and in a manner in which you KNOW you'll find it easy to install.

You can remove the freeze plug by prying it out, although you can gouge the block if you're not careful. Or get a freeze plug puller.

I have what appears to be one on the driver's side right above the oil pan in front of transmission. it is easily assesable and my cord will come out the bottom of bumper. you said to pry it out. can you poke something through it to pull it out as not to damae the blockl. My instructions also say to use vaseline on the o ring on the heater. Is that advisable or use something different. Appreciate your help.

Yes.

That's a "freeze plug puller".

Vaseline should be okay. It's just petroleum jelly after all.

Have fun! Glad I don't have to lay on a cold *** garage floor to install a block heater!
