Does the shift firmness adjustment also adjust the rate at which the return to lockup on the torque converter occurs after a downshift? I use the SCMT and experience a significant delay after dropping from 4 to 3 under heavy load. During those several seconds the exhaust temperature quickly rises past 1250, forcing me to back off the accelerator to let the TC lock up. Do you think the predator would solve this problem?

No, the firmness adjustment is the firmness only, with 3 different settings. The Diablo and Superchips can be very similar, or vastly different, depending on PCM code.

Thanks, Ken. I'll try to borrow the other programmers locally to see if differences are significant on my truck.

Thinking about a tuner but am worried it may void the engine warrantee. Also don't have EGT gauge and tow a travel trailer. Do I really need to install the EGT gauge if I use a tuner?

I HAVE A MICRO TUNER (older model w/only 2 settings) it is on a 2001 c-cab psd 4wd. it seems to get its best mileage and driving on the high setting. My guestion is with normal every day driving (no towing) will it hurt to leave it on this setting? I have no gauges and swap to the tow mode when towing. What mileage have improvements has anyone seen with the old of unit?

I didn't read through all the posts, so I don't know if this has been brought up. I had a Predator programmer on my '99 and I had to put three trans mounts in the damn thing because it shifted so frickin' hard. This was a stock tranny and that damn programmer increased the line pressure so much that it kept breaking the mounts. Not only that, when it shifted the back of the trans jumped up so much that the A/C clutch pully was wearing a hole in my coolant resevoir. I fixed the problem by junking the programmer and having a chip custom tuned by TS Performance.

heh, the proper way is to re-gear your axles so you aren't stressing your drive train so much. I hope your truck has a manual trans, other wise save your pennies.

You need to get guages before your next towing expedition. The EGT can go too high, even in the tow safe setting. If you have an automatic tranny it may be ok. Mine is marginal using towsafe and going up a long steep climb with my 13000 lb 5th wheel. I maxed out at 230 F on the Siskiyou pass on I 5 coming from Oregon to California. I had to keep cuttting speed to hold the EGT down to 1200 F in 3rd gear (4 speed auto), and finally had to shift down to 2nd gear. 2nd gear does not lock the torque converter, so that caused the tranny temperature to increase. Get guages.

Ken, good to see your still here with all the answers... I see there is a new toy out ( predator ) ... how much diffrnece would i notice compared to that Diablo chip I got from you 2 yrs ago?? is the programming for the diablo delta itself more advanced now.. maybe that delay I have in the "hi" program could be removed? thanks .. I installed my Preditor last night. Do I have to look for a new automatic transmision? WOW what power gain. I still can not believe this. But serously, I am conserned with my automatic transmision now. I did not do anything with it yet.
