CHECK ENGINE Light ?

Alrighty now..,

My driveline re & re's are complete (runs beautifully).
My rocker-panel re-fits are done (looks great).

Now I have a "Check Engine" light coming on occasionally.
Does anyone know what this is all about ?. Is there some
way to run a diagnostic, or are there some units that need checking ?.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Dale.

Dale,

In a '91, there is a way to run the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) with just a jumper wire. I can't describe it in detail, but here is a general idea...

find the OBD connector (I think under hood on a 91)
disconnect a jumper plug
insert the wire in 2 specific holes
turn your key to the run position, but don't crank the engine
count the series of flashes the check engine light does
(this is your key on engine off test)
then start the engine
count the flashes again
(this is your key on engine running test)
remove wire, and plug in jumper plug

Now it is really easy and there are a bunch of website's that show you exactly how to do this, just search for OBD tests and you should find pics and details on how to read the flashes.

hope that helps.

My favorite online instruction page: www.dalidesign.com/hbook/eectest.html Be sure when you get the codes to note which ones are KOEO hard faults, KOEO continuous memory codes, and which ones are KOER codes.
