I have a 2001 explorer sport with 38k of easy miles, and the transmission just failed. (4.0L V-6 5spd auto). A front axleshaft boot tore about 3k ago and was replaced under warrenty, it threw wheel weights about 4k ago for no apparent reason, and the parking brake cable is stretched right now, and I haven't gotten a chance to adjust them yet. My dad has a 2002 4 dr explorer with 18k and he had a trans valve recal, and it was shifting poorly beforehand. His also had a leaky roof, and a strut came off the rear hatch. We haven't been having very good luck with them.
