Do I need this stuff
I picked up my new F-450 6.0L Powerstroke with a 9ft grain body about two weeks ago.
It's my first diesel and being a believer in good maintenance and prevention I am trying to come up with my basic needs and what to watch for.
I'll be using Delvac 1300 and Wix filters.
Here's the question. Being that this is a 100% work truck that will have exposure to employees that won't watch out for it like me should I invest in a high idle control, and an EGT with a sensor that will force the truck to idle until the turbo temp is down. I'm curious as to the percieved risks from going right from park to shutdown and from extended idle times.
As for the uses this truck will see they are greatly varied. I might be loaded fairly heavy with stone, soil, etc and towing my mowers. I'll deliver fire woood. I'll just tow the mowers. I'll plow snow.
I see that a lot of people here are probably using more of their weight ratings than I will be as their towing bigger trailers, I however have to deal with constant 12 to 14 hour use in the heat as well as employees that won't understand a thing about letting the truck cool etc.

I think in your case I'd go with a Diesel Turbo Life Saver as a pure precautionary measure. It should eliminate the need for a pyrometer. If your employees can't be trained to use a cool down period they probably won't watch a pyrometer to avoid meltdown either.
