What year was the SOHC V6 first available in the ranger? I am looking at buying a used ranger, but I want the SOHC. My old explorer had one, and it was a 97, the first year the SOHC was available. I am not sure about when it was available in the ranger. Thanks

The 4.0L SOHC engine replaced the 4.0L EFI engine in 2001. The 4.0L EFI engine was introduced in 1990. The 2.9L engine was dropped after the 1992 model year. The 3.0L engine was introduced in 1991 in 4x2's and 1993 in 4x4's.
