Heavy loads on closed tailgate?

My previous truck was a steel body 2011 SD. I'm now in a 2026 Alumiduty. With my 2011, I used to load up multiple sheets of 4x8 plywood and MDF and leave them leaning on the closed tailgate so as to not have to worry about them sliding out of the bed. Should I be concerned with doing this (leaning hundreds of pounds on the closed tailgate) now with the Alumiduty? Anyone have any first hand experience putting similar loads on the closed tailgate of the new Alumidutys?

Should be able to handle the same loads. Haven't done it with mine but FIL has put several sheets of treated plywood on his '23, then strapped them down with ratchet straps with zero issues.

I just put them in the bed and close the tailgate!

When I had a short bed I would put the gate down and use a ratchet strap to secure them.

Resting them on the tailgate should not hurt anything, assuming the quantity is reasonable.

Exactly this. I'll run a row or two of 2x4's across the tailgate with it up and strap them down, or a few sheets of plywood (even treated). If I get more than that, even if I had a steel-bodied truck I'd just leave the tailgate down and strap them in.

I do like how Ford has added tie-downs to the tailgate specifically for securing loads that stick out. I've actually used that feature a couple times now - those aren't just bottle openers on the tailgate.
