Cooling Issues?

I have a 2019, with 94K on the clock. Last fall it it was deleted and tuned and have about 7K on the delete/tune.

Water temps, oil temps and several other things are monitored through OBDLink MX.

For the previous 95K miles both water and oil temps would go to about 200-205 before the t'stat would open and the temps would settle to about 185° water temp &190°oil temp. During warm ups, water temp was usually 10° warmer than the oil temp and tracked this way until the t'stat opened. This was under unloaded driving.

It seemed like nothing changed after the delete but wasn't really sure as we the weather cooled off. Now that the Chicago area is seeing temps 50° and up I'm now seeing that the oil and water temps are pretty much the same as the truck warms up. I'm not seeing the same thing as before - water and oil temps going up to 200-205 before the t'stat opens.

Water temps and oil temps are now running 4°- 5° warmer now than the 1st 95K miles. In fact I ran the tollway for 90 mins Monday evening @ 75 MPH @ 50° ambient for 90 mins and the water temps ran 189°. I pulled over and let it idle when i got to my destination and the water temp dropped just 2°. I no longer see 185° while idling.

Trans temps seem to be ok.

Your thoughts?

When you deleted did you remove the EGR or is it still flowing coolant through it? If you used a block off the temps should be a bit cooler. On another note you may want to get a SPE thermostat that opens at 176F off the top of my head. I have one installed and I never see oil temps over 190F during heavy towing and 180F normal driving..

You really cannot compare operating temps before the tune and after. Fueling is different and who knows what else. Just drive it!

EGR helps keep combustion temps down, so without it, it makes sense that your engine would be running a little warmer.

I did not due the EGR delete but plan on it.

I get the elevated temps when you're pushing the go pedal and making more power, but this is under normal suburban driving. HP=heat. I've had HP cars, with the last being a 500 HP 406 in my 69 Z-28. Yes, I had the original 302 on a stand so that I could go to the drag strip.

I've yet seen the water temp above 200° since delete/tune, but runs 2-5° higher then stock. Before the upgrades, the water temp would religiously hit 203° to 205°, the t'stat would open and the water temp would drop down to 185° or so and stay there. At 55° ambient temp, with the cruise control set @ 70, water temp was running 187°-189°. This was while driving on I90 in northern IL from just west of Chicago to just inside the WI line - 80+- miles.

I know in the old days you could check to see if the t'stat was working by checking the upper radiator hose. Could the t'stat be partial stuck? Takes forever to heat up up and runs warmer than before. It's bugging me to no end as something to me is not right.

Seems normal to me, but if it bothers you grab one of these.
