iam not to familer with boat applications but does it have a cold idle advance and by any chance is the fuel shut off solined accidently wierd to the cold advance so that when the advance goes to back the rpms down after the engine starts to warm up it actually shuts the engine off. some other ideas would be as long as the diesel engine starts its not anything major compression etc. so then it can only be air intake, fuel delvery, and exhaust. engines are giant air pumps espcially diesels. check yar air cleaner and associte parts for free flow of air, is yar exhaust free flowing and not blocked up with somthing and lastley is the tank full of fresh fuel that is free from water no leaks in the lines and return lines transfer pump working and getting good flow to injection pump. Injection pumps and injectors rarely go bad but are often blamed for all kinds of things replaceing injectors and pumps should only be done once all the simple stupid stuff is checked. hope these ideas help some.
