04 5.4 P0012 P0022 P0171 P0340 P1000

Well, I jumped into getting a Ford for my first time for a truck for my son. It has about 210k on it, starts and idles pretty well. When you get up to around 45-50ish, it starts to shutter quite a bit. Backing off the power, it seems to do okay. I started digging into the posts on here and see a variety of things could be going on here. I have the above codes and am wondering the best place to start. I have what sounds to be somewhat of an exhaust leak on the passenger side, but cannot yet see exactly where that is at. Thinking of cleaning the MAF, checking vacuum lines. I have a Launch OBDII that I have not totally figured out how to use yet. Are there additional readings that would help pinpoint a direction? Thanks all.

P0012, P0022 and a lot of miles on the ticker. The rest of the codes are back burner material for now.

Are you prepared to put a few thousand bucks or so into a remanned engine? No shop will do a timing job for you with that mileage nor is it advised.

Ok - I few thousand, probably not. But after a lot of reading and videos, I see I likely had the lovely timing job to do. I dove in and found the broken guides. Cam and cam caps had some small abrasion, but nothing worse than what some of the other videos showed when they were doing this job. So I replaced the followers and lash adjusters, put in a high volume oil pump and I am at the chains. My question is, I seem to have slack on the upper chain on the right side when the videos I see show the slack to be on the lower side. I am not sure if I am to turn the phaser counter clockwise some to get the guide in place? Here are pics of the phasers and markings. The really fun parts so far are the power steering pump, the bracket for the power steering fluid and the oil pump!

Well got 'er done. Primed and fired right up. All those codes are gone and all for under $1000 and some elbow grease. Who would have thought!
