Problem going into drive

I have a 95 f150 with a 4r70w. Was having issues with it going forward. Transmission registered that it was in drive but I was having to Rev it up for it to engage and go forward.(reverse works fine). Changed out the 2 solenoids right I side the trans pan. And it worked for about 1 mile. But now it won't go forward at all no matter how much I reverse it.(reverse still works fine and you can still feel it shift into drive). I'm at a loss plz help

Update: I'm assuming you correctly checked the hot and cold transmission oil levels, both with the engine running.
I encountered a similar problem and did some research on the reasons for this.
It sounds like you have problems with forward clutches and/or drum (the root cause may be wear of the OD bore) which is a very common failure for this type of transmission. Unfortunately, there is no other way to fix this problem other than removing and rebuilding the transmission.
This is what burnt clutches look like (this is the direct clutches, but the damage is similar). It will never work fine, no matter what you put into the valve body or fluid.
But the good news is that this transmission is not difficult to work on. If you have mechanic skills, then you can rebuild it yourself. You can find a detailed video guide on this channel.
How many miles on your vehicle? How frequently have you changed the tranny fluid?
Let us know your decision. The video guide is great but a little outdated, I could share with some updates.

No drive

244,000 miles. Took the pan off for the trucks first time ever a few months ago to replace bad gasket. (I know it was the first time due to the factory plug still being in the pan). So fluid was partially changed at this point. Do we have anything else it could be before I park it and start figuring out how to rebuild it.

Example. My car's manual (panther platform) recommends changing the fluid every 150k miles. However, even this is too much, in my opinion, I would change the oil every 60k or every at least 10 years.

With this data, I'm quite confident that rebuilding will be the best solution, because you won't waste time on unsuccessful attempts.

I have no experience with cars before OBD-2, so I’m not sure what can be applied in terms of reading the codes.
Here's what you can do without wasting your time.
  • You can do a pressure test (
    ).
  • When you drop the pan, you will get about 1/5 of all the oil in the transmission. You can get out more oil by removing the VB, accumulators and pistons. In your case, this must be done, also in order to clean it, because a lot of contaminants settle inside (I recommend using a parts washer). All this can be done from under the truck without removing the transmission. Look for black pasty contaminants or debris, it will mean that you definitely need to overhaul the transmission. With a 99% chance you will find it and be sure that removing the transmission is the right decision. Next, simply reinstall only the pan and follow the normal transmission removal process.
