I am new to the powerstroke family. I have always had a cummins wether it be 5.9 or 6.7 and they have been great. I just bought a 2010 F250 6.4 Powerstroke. Anyone on here have any suggestions on what I should be aware of? The truck is beautiful and seems to be running great. I don't know too much about the powerstroke line of engines yet so just seeing if I need to be aware of anything with this truck. I've heard good and bad things about the 6.4 engines. Thanks.
The fact of the matter is...............It's got problems due to emission programs and some poor engineering and material use. Rockers/lifters/cavitation in the front cover and so on.
However, there are quite a few on the road that get high mileage use.
The key is maintenance and how it's driven.
Rip thru this forum and digest what common fails are and also absorb the common things posted that owners have to share.
If you do a heavy maintenance schedule and drive it like your post pube, you may enjoy it without a major. They're not hot rods or toys, and that's what make them fail for the most part is owner abuse/neglect.
Sure, there are failures do to poor material or assembly, but they're pretty rare comparatively.
I love mine. No majors and I just treat it as it should be treated and cared for.
Anything man made will fail at one point, the key to avoidance is proactive maintenance.
