Snipper conversion

Anybody done a snipper conversion on a 300. Im just a beginner mechanic here(not planning to do the conversion myself). My engine has electronic ignition with a 1B carb. Im looking for more reliability in starting and d
riving. Advice? Thank you...

What, uh, exactly are we talking about here? Sounds, at the very least, painful, and probably against my religious beliefs. Would I be required to dye my hair pink/purple/green?

Hmm did my misspelling throw you both off? Sniper" not snipper. After I posted here I found a posting about this "Sniper EFI" date 12/20/2022. Guess you guys should look that up... Thank you...

LOL, I think it’s enough to throw anyone off, especially since it wasn’t capitalized or make any mention of Holley or EFI. Any one of those probably would have righted the ship.”

Just go to Holley.com and look at the 1bbl EFI's. Don't know if you are going to get more reliability from adding a system that requires a high-pressure electric fuel pump and electronic sensors to work. Versus a carburator that works just fine all by itself.

Agree with Crop Duster. The Sniper probably won't add much to that 300 by itself. I think the Sniper can add a little bit more reliability with engine upgrades and swaps. It's also nice for electronic controlled devices like an aftermarket fan. If you're just replacing the carburetor and the fuel system I think that money is probably better spent on other areas of the truck.

I wrote up my Sniper install here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...tallation.html
It was a bunch of cost and work. If someone else is going to do it, and you have plenty of funds, then cost and work is less of a factor.
My truck does accelerate better and in general 'runs' better with the Sniper. Also, I can now start the truck, standing outside, in all the weather that SoCal throws at me - including today's frigid 40 degree morning. With the carb, I had to have a choke and throttle plan for all seasons and cold and hot starts. It was also fairly undriveable until the water temp got to 150 degrees
I'm still not sure if instead of the cost and effort, I just should have worked harder to get the carb tuned better, and just lived with variations and chasing the seasons.

I would like to add one thing to this for anyone who has an EFI or AFR gauge that uses a Bosch 4.9 LSU sensor. First when they are dieing they are lying. Second they are totally intolerant of exhaust leaks. And they are expensive.
Here is a good article on keeping the sensor alive for a year or two anyway.

I've had the Holley Sniper for 3 years on a 347 stroker. It's a killer setup and makes the engine reliable and run very well. Less exhaust fumes, no crappy cold starts, and if you add hyperspark ignition which is the same cost as MSD, you can get full control of ignition timing from the handheld montitor.

*I disagree that money is better spent elsewhere. This system is phenomenal and make the truck very driveable.

I went with the single barrel Holley Sniper 1100 on my 300 inline. I like it. A lot!
Mine was a totally new build, so everything is new front to back, including the fuel tank, in-tank pump and fuel lines.
Not big on power. Not much more, if any, than stock. But it suits my needs just fine. I had to fab throttle linkage, but that was really the only installation challenge.
It fires up in the morning easy like a late model vehicle, and gets 22mpg on the freeway.
In town fuel mileage isn't quite where I wanted it at 13mpg. But I've seen some small improvements from tuning. The biggest improvement was in the cold-run segment of the tune.
A lot of my in town trips are short, and the thing isn't hitting run temps until I get where I'm going. I think that's the reason for the sub-par in town mileage.
