spyware

i thought this would be a pretty good place to ask this question since alot of you seem to be very good with computers. i'm not. this is my first computer, i'm learning somthing new every day. is it a good idea to scan for and get rid of the parasites i get every day or am i wasting my time? i had one that took over my homepage, what a pain. they're mostly cookies but sometimes i get one in registry.

Ad-Aware 6 has a feature called Ad-Watch that keeps tabs on what spyware you get so you can delete it sooner.

Another program I highly suggest is Spyware Blaster and its companion program, which can both be found on the same site. Go to http://www.wilderssecurity.com/spywareblaster.html

Both programs are free. What they do is keep a whole rank of malicious programs from loading on your computer or if you already have a bad program, such as Xupiter or one of its variants, it will remove it.

Believeme...there are a lot of people out there who make programs that will do great harm to your computer. I had Xupiter on mine and had to completely reformat to get rid of it. I couldn't do a system restore, my virus scan wouldn't update and when I tried to surf to any site, Xupiter would redirect me to it's own site, which is worthless.

Load both programs... you will be glad you did and they both are a great addition to Adaware, which I also run.

One other thing you should load is a pop - up stopper. Go to www.google.com and type pop-up stopper in the search box. Load the Google one and make sure to check the box that asks if you DO or DO NOT want their spyware installed and reporting to them.

Good luck with your internet experience.

i just downloaded the ad-aware 6. it found 36 objects. most were harmless but there were 6 nasty ones in the registry that my spyhunter missed. including the one that stole my homepage and removed the general tab in internet options. thanks for the advice , i'll also look into the one's you suggested also, fordlover1951. i've got the panic-ware it works pretty good.

You should also go to www.downloads.com and search for 'Spybot'. It catches things that my ad-aware doesnt. I also run Panic-ware too.

I think your confusing spyware with cookies, FTE throws cookies and they are not malicious.

Does this make anyone else mad? I think that it is wrong as hell for anyone to be able to download stuff that I did not athorize onto my computer. Not to mention track my habits and report them to anyone.

I use adaware and spybot. They seem to do the job.
