I have a 1982 F350 DRW. The rims are stock steelies 16 x 6. I need a spare rim but can only find rims that apparently fit trucks after 1987. They are still 8 x 6.5 pattern, 16 inch rims with 6 inch width, but they indicate that they only fit 88 and up trucks. Can someone enlighten me? Would a 1988 rim fit my 1982? What happened after 1986 to ford drw rims?

If memory serves me in 87 Ford switched to hub-centric rather than lug-centric (maybe the other way?). I remember for my 1972 DRW when I wanted to replace the widow makers I could only look for donors up to 86 (and some Dodge years) due to the same reason.
EDIT:
More of it coming back to me. The rims on my 1972 were 'coined'. This means they alternated between raised bumps and lowered bevels on the lugnuts. This way when the dually wheel was placed a 'raised' lug spot on the exterior wheel nestled in to a lowered spot on the inner wheel. I believe ford did this until 1985. Dodge I believe used them from the late 80s in to the early nineties. Can you use the Dodge rims? I think so but I have not done it.
When I replaced my widowmakers I bought these: RED-WHFD166-80E

Coined rims ended about 1982-83 but you never know for sure. Junkyard/parts cross references are not accurate all the time. Dodge dually rims are compatible until 93.
