I run royal purple 5w20 in my 2000 v10 and have had no problems. For me it's actually cheaper because ican run it for 12,000 miles. It costs $28 to get the oil changed with penzoil every 3000 miles. Royal purple is $78 every 12,000 miles with a $15 filter change in the middle. Thats a savings of around $15, pluss I have to go in half as much.

Holy crap.

Another victim of brainwashing.

Stop trying to save money with oil! There are much better ways to save money!

Change the stuff according to the specs written by the company that has been building cars & trucks for over 100 years and the one that BUILT YOURS and stop listening to the BS salespeople!

Run what you like, brandwise, but stick to the appropriate weight specified and change it in the proper intervals.

Anything else is fuggin' stupid.

Great comparison post Berol! I was thinking about switching to the new Mobil but won't now as the justification isn't there.

I have to second Monsta's comments 12K before changing oil? I don't care what is in there thats insane. I'll stick with the 15 minute inconvience of every 3K.

I prefer my Motorcraft on buffalo wings the Mobil just doesn't have that zing

I couldn't agree more. As I read my owners manual, it says you must use the required certified oil, or your warranty could be voided. I think I'll stay with Ford's recommendations (the motorcraft 5w30 & the mobil 1 0w20 qualify among others).

Another thought. Anyone read that oil filter study?

While personally I agree with you Monsta, you thing you've kinda left out of the whole thing is, this is his truck, his engine, his (potential) engine failure if it happens. We can all do nothing but give our opinion to someone, even if we have every fact behind us known to man, and it's been proven in every venue known to exist. If this guy wants to run extra virgin olive oil in his crankcase and change it once every 50K, well, he can. Manufacturers have 'suggested' intervals, suggested to keep your warranty intact surely, but suggested nonetheless. Personally it hacks me off to see BS salespeople con decent folks into using their snake oils, but after you tell them, and tell them again, and they still look at you with that glazed look in their eyes, sometimes ya just have to throw your hands up in the air and walk away, and leave em be, it's their money.

Know this I have been useing Royal Purple (a full synthetic) for the past 6 years. In those 6 years I have never had a oil related failer in over 900 pieces of equipment. Thats rental equipment, not something you use just every once in a while. Not to mention my 502ci f150 has over 350,000 miles with no problems, changed the oil every 12,000 miles on the dot. I could not be be happier with my choice of oil. So are yall basing your opinion on what youve done or what youve ben told to do.

What is the deal on Royal Purple? I've heard of it but never see it in a retail store. How much is it?

A 502 cube F-150? Do you bore and stroke a big block? How did you get it to fit in a F150? What kind of tranny handles that much torque?

Like I said, it's your money, if you want to run extra virgin olive oil in your crankcase it's up to you. I use Mobil 1, maybe it is a waste of money over Motorcraft, OK, maybe so. I change it every 5K. Motors are expensive, oil is cheap insurance, I dunno, makes sense to me. I've looked for Royal Purple, I wouldn't be able to let it go 12K though, just wouldn't, maybe that's why every time I do find it and pick up a bottle I take home the Mobil 1. I think in a previous post where you said you went 12K between changes I joked about your oil dying of old age, but actually 12K probably isn't that many miles in a rental fleet, depending on what the usage is. So bottom line is, it's your pesos, your machinery, we all like to fling the fur around here, don't take any offense, it's just bench racin'.

I had a 502 chevy engine ( a budy needed some money) and a blown up 351 f150. We got a "wild hair" one day and a monster was born. As far as fitting it took a lot of custom frame and motor mount work. The stock 4 speed trany lasted about 30 seconds on the test drive. I forgot what we put in it last. It's had 5 or 6 tranys in as many years. Not to mention drive shafts and axels. The dana 60s have held up best. Brother has it now.

Who knows. If you agree with what it says, then you can say it's legit. If you don't agree, then you could say you doubt the validity. Just like anything else.
