Insulation

Can anyone gimme a heads up on what might be the best insulation for heat, cold and noise? I heard about Dynamat. Has anyone tried this product? Any help is appreciated!

There's a site that goes into insane detail about insulating a VW van; it's down now, but Archive.org has it archived:

You could look at how big American cars are insulated. Detroit made those beasts very quiet.

I'm thinking of using something like "ice guard" (used to protect roofs from ice and snow buildup) on the sheet metal to dampen the vibrations (so the panels don't ring like a drum). Then, over that, some kind of dense insulation like carpet underlay.

Angus, you know, I've never heard of anyone using "ice and water shield" (ice guard as you called it) for insulation, but honestly I think it could work. I know I worked with the stuff a lot when I worked for a roofing company, the stuff is cheap too. Think if you could find an adhesive that would stick to it, it might work wonders on floorpans, get it warm and the stuff will conform to a lot of shapes. Think it would be very similar to the asphalt based sound dampening pads you can buy, except you can by it by the 50ft roll
