Tailgate problems

I just bought a 1990 Bronco and am having problems with the rear window. I can only go up with it with both switches ( one in dash and one in gate). I have checked all the breakers and fuses and all is good. I have power going back to the motor and motor turns( removed from gate) to go up. When I try to bring the window down I get power to both the wires instead of just one so the motor does not bring the window down. This happens with both switches. Is it a ground problem on the down side? Bad switch in the dash? Just to give some history on the truck it is a recovered stolen vechicle from 1990 that was salvaged and steering column was replaced and some one rewired under the dash where wires had been ripped out.

Welcome to the site!!

This tends to be a problem with all the Big Broncos. Try doing a search for it in the previous posts and see if someone else has had the same problem.

yea the bronco tail gate was one of Fords better idea's..LOL
aside from rust and window problems..they are great..LOL
but I agree with Doorgunner808...do a search of site and there will be many post about tail gate problems...

Well I think I narrowed it down to the dash switch. If I ground one wire at a time at the motor the switch moves window up and down fine. I think the ground path is not completeing in the switch to allow window to go down. Ordered a new switch from Ford today for $14. Will see in a couple of days when it comes in.

Good deal.....hope that fixs it

just an FYI

Make sure the window track has grease...
if you have access cover off....
also you will find that the window track ball..(for lack of better term) will wear out and the window will fall out of track on one side and fail to go up or down...seems to alway happen when it is down and it is raining..LOL...
also clean out the bottom of tail gate..make sure the drains are open...
