bed extender
Has anyone here ever made a bed extender for their pick-up?
If so, what materials did you use?
See the photo below. I am thinking of making one out of 1 inch copper pipe. Using T and elbow connectors and cutting the pipe to fit the size (lxw) of the rear end of my truck.
I will fasten it to the side of the bed using support bracets designed for copper pipe (metal) with straps in the rear to keep it from bouncing.
Then, once constructed I will paint it.

My intention is not to hold back heavy objects in the pick-up bed, but rather things like camping gear. Some of the things I have are a shade too long for the bed now and with this extender they will fit fine and prevent them from sliding out the rear.
But I will check into using steel pipe and have a welder put it together for me. Can't hurt to ask.

Yea if you get a welder you will come out alot cheaper unless you have welding supplies,,Copper might not be a bad choice if you just useing it to hold camping gear and such. And it really won't be banging against the copper to much unless you stop real quick. You could even weld metal between the copper tubes for more support if the copper isn't to light weight. But if you going more for looks then the metal inbetween won't look so great. Good luck man
