At that point, the oil would always effectively be around 5,000 miles old, so just change the filter at 10,000, top off the level, and keep going . . . ????

I'm not serious about actually doing that . . . but if a quart is added 1,000 miles before the oil change, that quart is only 1,000 miles old when it comes out. Same for the quart added 2,000 miles ago etc. (for example)

The freshest engine oil is in the car with the worst consumption . . . and most attentive owner. LOL

Quick update on my long block Ford replaced in September of 2024. Just checked my oil level two days ago and it is still right to the top.
I had the Ford dealer do an oil change in July, the first change since they replaced the engine. Looks like there is no more oil consumption
on my 2019 F150 5.0 , seems like Ford fixed the oil consumption issue! My dealership was a great help in getting my new engine.
Thanks to Suburban Motors in Victoria, B.C.
