92 Explorer A/C problem
Just recently picked up a 1992 Exporer XLT. The a/c compressor was locked up and the belt was re-routed so I took it upon myself to fix the problem. The system was already converted to R134 so I purchased a new accumulator and orifice tube (which the old one was full of metal shavings!) and flushed the hoses the best I could. I replaced the a/c compressor with a used one and proceeded to vacuum the system which held vacuum fine. I hooked up my new gauges and can of R134 and started her up.
Realized I had to jump the cycling valve and hit the a/c button and BAAAM.....blew a fuse. Replaced the fuse and again blew it.
After the third fuse, I figured something was bad and proceeded to check things out. First thing I thought the used compressor was the culprit so silly me I replaced it with another used one but deja vue, it happened again (must not be the compressor??). It only happens when I jump the cycling switch and hit the button, otherwise everything is o.k. What's up with that?? I can hit the button without jumping the cycling switch and nothing happens (fuse o.k.). Any suggestions on what to do next?????? Thanks!!
