I'm not sure what the best insulation to use on the ducting, thinking of just boxing it with rigid Styrofoam

Anything is better than nothing. Are the ducts sheetmetal or flex duct? The flex stuff they make sleeves for, the other I might just use some of that foil backed bubble wrap looking stuff, it should be enough and is a lot easier to manage than the hard foam boards. I know down here we can get some stuff that is even stick on. In all reality you can use air for insulation...its just the need to contain it to use it as such.

Yeah not sure what is available in your area, but I know for us the flex stuff is easy, you can find it at the local home stores. The foils and other stuff you might need to look a touch harder.
